Actor Keith David was born on 4 June 1956 in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, and raised in Corona, Queens, New York City. His mother, Dolores, was a manager at New York Telephone, and his father, Lester Williams, worked as a director of payroll operations.
Keith David initially intended to become an actor after playing the Cowardly Lion in a school production of The Wizard of Oz and went on to study at Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts. He attended the Juilliard School's Drama Division where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1979.
