Gavin was born in Bradford and grew up in the Bradford neighborhoods of Little Horton and Buttershaw before moving to the town of Denholme as a teenager.
Gavin joined Buttershaw High School for schooling education and then she attended the University of Huddersfield in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, where she got a degree in drama. She had to put her degree on hold for a few years, after being cast in Shameless during her second year of the course.
